God Sets the Lonely in Families
“God sets the lonely in families.” — Psalm 68:6a
God is a loving Father. It is His desire to have a relationship with everyone. He wants us all to be saved from the wages of sin, which is ultimately eternal separation from Him (Romans 6:23). Through His Son, Jesus Christ, God offers us eternal life with Him. He is concerned with the final destination of our souls, but He is also concerned with our lives here on earth, right now.
The world is filled with people from many different walks of life. Some come from loving homes with two devoted parents who are happily married and care deeply for their children. Others come from dysfunctional families that have no idea how to love or show thoughtfulness and affection. Some people have no one to turn to for help, kindness, or even simply a listening ear.
God sees us all.
God is loving, compassionate, and gracious toward His children. He promises never to leave us nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:8), and He tells us that we can cast our anxieties on Him because He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). Therefore, when we feel lonely or have no one to talk to, when we begin to think that no one cares, we can remember that God is there for us.
“In Your presence there is fullness of joy” (Psalm 16:11).
God not only shows up in our moments of loneliness, but He also expresses His love for us through the people He allows to come into our lives and show us His heart. They may not always be related to us by blood, but they are God-sent.
They carry our burdens (Galatians 6:2). They encourage us in our walk with God and spur us on toward love and good works (Hebrews 10:24). They comfort us (2 Corinthians 1:4). They mourn with us and rejoice with us (Romans 12:15). And they love us in the way God intended, with patience and kindness (1 Corinthians 13:4–8).
The body of Christ does not exist without reason. God uses His people to bless His people.
He puts the lonely in families.
And so, if your family was abusive, if they were absent, or if they simply did not care for you, know this: God loves you with an everlasting love.
He sent His only Son to be the sacrifice that would bring you back to Him (John 3:16). He has adopted you into His family (Ephesians 1:5), and He will always provide a safe place for you to land within the body of Christ.
You are not alone. You are seen. You are loved. And you have a place in the family of God.
